1 Corinthians 14:34-35 ~ Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
1 Timothy 2:11-12 ~ A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.
I think I'm asking for trouble with this one, yet it is an interesting topic to discuss. How far do you think a woman should be allowed to go in the church? Pastor? High School teacher? A high schooler teaching among her peers? What are your thoughts?
You should clarify what gender she is teaching. Also, I think the Bible is pretty clear she cannot teach a man, so we must define who a "man" is :)
ReplyDeleteA man, as I would consider, is a grown adult who is taking care of himself. And as a side note, a lot of the roles for men require that he must be married.

I think a woman's role in the church is as follows:
She's not allowed to have authority over a Christian man in the church (pastor, elder, etc.). But a man also can't hold some positions in the church without a wife (to keep him pure). She can also be a deaconess, witness to men, etc.
Contrary to popular belief, this is not sexist! Rather, while the men sit around & argue over where the finances are going for this month we can be out volunteering at animal shelters, helping single mothers, etc. We get to do all the fun stuff because we're not tied down by a position of leadership in the church. (*hehe*)
I also don't think the Bible forbids a woman Youth Pastor (because as far as I'm concerned most teenage guys aren't men anyway) though I would think you would want a man to fill that position to set a precedent for the future when the kids are actively involved in church.
I also don't think when it says "be quiet" that that doesn't mean a woman can't sing or pray. I think it means she can't hold authority over the Christian man.
Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.
I agree with that, I also think that its foolish of a man to not listen to a woman just because she "can't hold authority over a man."
